Parent Education

  1. The core activities of our Family Resource Centers at Mill Ridge and Morris Street Schools are parent and family education.  We offer parent and child playgroups, family events and parent educational workshops.  Our parent educators are a wealth of knowledge about community resources for families.

MISSION:

To provide direct assistance and support to families.

DESCRIPTION:

In collaboration with school administration and staff, home visits are conducted with selected parents regarding specific, school-related concerns, e.g. student absenteeism, available public school and community services and programs. In addition, weekly, one to one and a half hour parent and child playgroups are offered for parents and their infants/toddlers. Monthly, evening family events, e.g. movie night, reading games, are also offered, alternating with parent educational workshops, e.g. family literacy.

Playgroups take place during the day, usually a morning and an afternoon. Family events and parent educational workshops are evenings, usually 6:00-7:00 p.m.
